Phoenixville Homes was begun in 1994 by the Greater Phoenixville Area Council of Churches to establish affordable housing in the Phoenixville, PA area. Their first project was to help home owners refurbish existing homes. This expanded to the Wilson Street Town House Project in Phoenixville, PA.
Phoenixville Homes developed and opened the Flag House in Spring City, PA in 2000 and opened a sister facility the Bard Complex in 2007. Both apartment buildings are available to low income seniors 62 years of age or older. In addition the Freedom House was completed in 2002 and serves adults of low income who are physically disabled. The Phoenixville Homes POWER Program (Phoenixville Opportunities with Empowerment Resources), offers homes to qualified low income, first time homebuyers, in the Greater Phoenixville area.
Flag House, Bard Complex and Freedom House were developed by Phoenixville Homes in partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Phoenixville Homes is the managing agent for all three of these properties. Phoenixville Homes as well as each of the three facilities is a separate corporation and is classified as a charitable organization 501© (3) tax exempt by the Internal Revenue. Each organization is therefore eligible to receive charitable donations in furtherance of its mission.
